On the 26th and 27th of March, more than 120 leaders and professionals from acrossAustralia’s vehicle rental and mobility sectors gathered at The Langham, Gold Coast for the inaugural Vehicle Rental and Mobility Industry (VRMI)Summit, proudly sponsored by Insuret.
Developed in direct response to customer feedback, the summit created a much-needed space for industry peers to come together, exchange ideas, and explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of mobility.
Key takeaways from the summit
1.Economic shifts are reshaping the industry
From supply and demand pressures to labour shortages and environmental impacts, it’s clear the Australian motor market is feeling the influence of global forces. The big takeaway? Change is accelerating, and businesses willing to adapt will be the ones who succeed.
2.Regulation & risk management
Rental agreements are an essential risk management tool—when worded correctly, aligned with legislation, and communicated clearly. Acting within the law, with fairness and integrity, remains critical to protecting your business.
3.Digital claims are the future
Digital infrastructure is transforming how claims are handled. Sessions highlighted how the right systems can reduce claim lifecycles, centralise communication, and improve the customer experience. With consumer readiness already here, the industry must now focus on implementation and integration.
4.Best practice and efficiency go hand in hand
Topics like minor damage, outsourcing, and labour costs pointed to one clear theme: efficiency comes from better systems and better partnerships.Ongoing improvement isn’t a nice-to-have—it’s essential.
5.Safety, sustainability & strategy
Sessions on accident investigation, event management, total loss vehicles, andESG issues reinforced the urgency of innovation. From confronting organised crime to meeting modern slavery requirements, the industry must act quickly—and strategically.
What’s next for the industry and VRMI?
The summit closed with a sense of urgency and optimism. From the rise of AI to flying cars, the mobility industry is evolving at speed—and the VRMI Summit was a timely reminder that collaboration is key to navigating that future.
